Senior Mechanical Engineer

Cambridge, Massachusetts
Work Type: Full Time

Company and Team  - The ocean covers 71% of our planet, yet we know less about it than the surface of Mars. Apeiron Labs is on a mission to change that. We're not just building underwater vehicles—we're building systems that will reshape weather prediction, revolutionize aquaculture, transform shipping, and strengthen national security. We're developing breakthrough technologies that slash ocean sensing costs by orders of magnitude

Join a crew of battle-tested subsea specialists, robotics experts, firmware architects, and full- stack cloud engineers. This is a unique opportunity to engineer the future of ocean intelligence and contribute to humanity's understanding.

Apeiron means unbounded in Greek. The challenge is unbounded. The opportunity is unbounded. Your creativity can be unbounded too.

About the Role

We're hunting for a mechanical engineer who transforms ideas into innovative designs and turns those designs into products that can withstand the depths while delivering breakthrough performance.

Beyond your training and experience, you're also a builder who is not afraid to get their hands dirty prototyping and testing their designs at sea. You have a portfolio that demonstrates how you solved hard mechanical design problems and shipped products.

You thrive in multidisciplinary teams where mechanical meets electrical, where software meets hardware meets ocean. Your expertise in hydrodynamics, subsea packaging, and additive manufacturing isn't just technical knowledge—it's your superpower for creating cost-disrupting innovations that will fundamentally transform ocean sensing.

For us, remote work might mean deploying systems in the ocean, watching your creations dive, and surfacing with data that changes everything. If you've got an adventurer's soul, you're our kind of engineer.

How you will make an impact on ocean intelligence

  • Deliver the mechanical design of our next-generation profiler by solving challenges in the design of buoyancy control systems, structures, and packaging.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough and detailed model to enable simulation of systems, CB/CG modeling, and buoyancy models.
  • Bring a hands-on approach to working with our partners, fabricators, and internal team to bring prototypes to reality in a compressed timeframe.
  • Participate in all phases of the testing cycle to provide early identification of risks to the project and rapidly provide cost and performance implications
  • Provide guidance and a strong engineering voice to junior engineers and CO-OPS.
  • Show your work in excellent documentation and engineering process design. Building and maintaining processes that are foundational to excellent product delivery
  • Willingness and ability to participate in offshore testing to validate the design and performance of our systems.
What you must have

  • BSME (or related degree) from a 4-year college/university
  • 6+ years relevant experience
  • Expertise in one of the mainstream 3D mechanical engineering CAD/Simulation software programs, with a preference for Onshape.
  • Expertise with PLM systems and change management processes
  • Expertise in finite-element analysis to evaluate stresses and structural modes
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively amongst a diverse group of engineering disciplines.
  • US Citizenship required
  • The mindset to rapidly iterate in startup time is required

It'd be great if you also had these

  • MS degree in Mechanical Engineering or Physics with ≥ 10 years of relevant experience
  • Experience in engineering leadership roles in a cross-functional environment
  • Proficiency with maker skills, such as rapid prototyping machinery and electromechanical assembly
