Work Type: Full Time

The company - Apeiron Labs is reimagining ocean monitoring by developing technologies to reduce the cost of ocean sensing by orders of magnitude. We are a venture-backed company, and our co-founders, Applied Invention and S2G Ventures, have a successful track record of creating and investing in some of the world's most impactful technologies and companies. Apeiron means unbounded in Greek. The challenge and opportunity are unbounded, and your unbounded creativity can be part of the solution!

The Role

Initially, you will make individual contributions to the fabrication of our ocean profilers. This includes using your expertise with traditional as well as modern methods of prototyping and developing fabrication expertise with composite materials. You will eventually develop specifications for Apeiron Labs' prototyping facility. We are looking for someone with a do-what-it-takes-to-build-it mindset and who grows with the company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fabricate the first generation of our systems in collaboration with the rest of the team and contract manufacturers
  • Design and fabricate test articles and continuously identify opportunities for improvements
  • Specify design packages and evaluate, qualify, select, and manage contract manufacturers to fabricate designs.
  • Train shop technicians
  • Design and build out a Makerspace for Apeiron Labs
  • Identify and help recruit additional makers

Minimum Qualifications

  • An undergraduate or graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Autonomous Systems, or a related field
  • 4+ years of real-world experience with both traditional and modern rapid prototyping technologies and materials (including composites)
  • Demonstrated mastery of the CAD/CAM/FMEA toolchains used in rapid prototyping
  • Demonstrated experience with fabricating complex electro-mechanical assemblies under engineering and budget constraints
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, computer, and technical writing skills are mandatory
  • Enthusiasm to join a startup taking on the challenge of reimagining ocean monitoring

Highly preferred qualifications

  • Experience applying your rapid prototyping experience to robots, submersibles, spacecraft, drones, or similar power and weight-constrained electro-mechanical systems
